Summary
An amino acid that is the precursor to serotonin. 5-HTP is sold over the counter in the United Kingdom, the United States and Canada as a dietary supplement for use as an antidepressant, appetite suppressant, and sleep aid. It is also useful in the recovery from certain psychedelics that drain serotonin such as MDMA (See ~drugs 5-HTP MDMA

Half Life
The biological half-life of 5-HTP ranged from 2.2 to 7.4 hours, and the plasma clearance ranged from 0.10 to 0.23 1/kg/hour
After-Effects
Minimal, slight depression/anxiety after repeated use
MDMA
MDMA and 5-HTP are dangerous when done at the same time. However, 5-HTP can mean a world of difference for recovering from MDMA and other drugs.
One must use 5-HTP AFTER your MDMA high fades and the dysphoric comdown begins. Wait AT LEAST 5-6 hours after the last dose of MDMA.
The basis for doing this is that 5-HTP is a necessary precursor for the brain to produce more serotonin, and MDMA use depletes a person's natural serotonin levels, thus taking 5-HTP after consuming MDMA is speculated as helping improve serotonin production.
