= Introduction =

Our primary goal as TripSit is to tripsit the universe. As such, Tripsitters are the backbone of our network, and their function is to provide assistance to drug users throughout the network - primarily in our tripsitting channels. Without their selfless efforts we would not be here today. Each of us have stepped up in the #tripsit rooms to help people and it's a rite of passage to advance to other positions in the network. As such we have fairly high standards for our tripsitters and expect the best of them.

It's been one year since Tripsit was founded and we've done some restructuring of the network. If you are seeing this memo you are considered staff by the definition of "having a flag in one of our public rooms." For a lot of you that mean's you're tripsitters and were never considered fully staff until recently. We wrote an orientation guide that will help keep everyone on the same page. Please add #teamtripsit to your auto-join list and join #tripsit.me if you'd like to keep in contact with the admin team. While you're in #teamtripsit you can say !flags and get a list of all current staff. If you don't see them in #teamtripsit then make sure they saw this memo and the orientation guide which is:http://pad.tripsit.me:9001/p/orientation
Never be afraid to defer a question to another member of the team by asking in #teamtripsit or even by using the '~tripsit user' command to call for help. Remember that no information is always preferable to incorrect information.

Hello!
You can find a guide on how to TripSit users [http://wiki.tripsit.me/wiki/How_To_Tripsit_Online here]. Please also make sure you are familiar with our general [https://wiki.tripsit.me/wiki/Orientation staff orientation].

Welcome to your first step into the TripSit network!
== Redirecting Users ==

You have been chosen for a staff position based on your good performance, your willingness for helping out and good attitude to the the people here. Here's some vital information about the network and staffing to help you perform well in your new position!
There's no telling when a serious case will come in that could seriously alter the mood of other people in the room. It can also become quite chaotic and difficult for people under the influence when there are multiple conversations going on in the room at once. For these reasons we attempt to keep the assistance channels relatively clear for users who are in need of help. We do so by assessing the situation of the person, and then suggest they join another room on the network if necessary. Also, sometimes a user enters the channel looking for general chat. In both of these situations, you can direct them to an appropriate channel.

History
Some good channels to keep in mind for different circumstances are:

The TripSit network was founded by Techno_shaman (Teknos) on June 1st, 2012, as he was a lonely psychonaut looking to talk with other people online. It progressed into an IRC channel in Sept of '12 and changed its focus to be geared around harm reduction and providing a safe community for the world's Psychonauts. It has since grown to a website, webradio, social network, and has been featured by MAPS. We've had news articles written about us and have helped countless people in many different ways. We're currently expanding our social network and working on developing a real-life presence at festivals and concerts, and you're invited to be a part in the next step in growing our network.
* #drugs - For when the person has high-energy and wants a super-active chat. Avoid suggesting this channel if the person is easily confused or in a fragile mental state.

Final wordsWe want all of our staff members to be role models and regular contributors, dedicated to the ideals of TripSit. We expect them to be able to devote a reasonable amount of time to TripSit in order to improve our network and help it grow.  Staff members are positive, nice, respectful and professional in their dealings with members whether regular or staff; they represent the entire network! Below is a list of staff roles, their powers and specific responsibilities.
* #lounge - Generally a lot more quiet than #drugs, this room can be used as a back-up room if #sanctuary is too crowded, or for smaller chats with people who want to socialize, but not in #drugs

Network Wide Duties and Job Functions
* #sanctuary - You are encouraged to use #sanctuary as a place to send users who are on drugs but would rather have lighter, more positive, conversation than #drugs. If a user is on drugs, and needs a quieter chat or perhaps some lighter tripsitting, or if #tripsit is already busy, attempt to redirect them to #sanctuary. This room has enforced positivity knowing that people who are currently on substances will be here. Avoid sending more rambunctious or loud users here.

Represent the TripSit community with a positive, supportive attitude at all times and be a responsible face of the TripSit network as an approachable and positive role model.
If a user is on a substance and being spoken to, though not in any particular 'trouble', there is no need to move them to another room as a matter of urgency unless there is another situation happening in the channel - though these cases should eventually be moved to #sanctuary. You can take your time to make sure they're okay before moving them.

Be an active member of the community, and promote a positive environment by guiding conversation to an acceptable level of quality.
'''General drug questions may be answered in the assistance channels, there is no need to redirect these cases unless the rooms are busy.'''

== Managing Tripsitters ==

No sourcing rule.
The #tripsitters channel is our control room for discussing and managing tripsitting encounters. As a tripsitter staff member you will be expected to lead other people who are helping in providing an organised and quality tripsitting experience to our users.

Keep in mind: General SR talk is okay so long as they dont mention specifics or vendors. telling people to buy off SR, Amazon, or an RC vendor is OK, but giving links, names, phone numbers, or otherwise is not OK. Be vague, yet helpful.
This involves pulling people who are helping out in the assistance channels into #tripsitters, and using it to give tips and help to people who are helping. You can also monitor this channel to see a summary of activity in the assistance channels, and receive alerts for when somebody needs help or may not be receiving help (are talking to themselves in the channel).

whoami: Does this refer only to illegal drugs, or also paraphernalia? (e.g. pipes, scales, blotter paper, etc.)
== Emergency Situations ==

this includes parahernalia, mainly pipes though. Scales should be allowed seeing as they help reduce harm as well as all other mediums concerning dosages.
Rarely, a user who joins an assistance channel is in a state beyond help. This can arise from them simply being unresponsive or refusing to accept advice in the face of dangerous behaviour, or in the case that the user needs to seek medical attention. In such a case, it's acceptable to ~quiet the user in #tripsit, with a note of what the user needs to do. For example, in the past we have quieted users with the reason of "Call EMS immediately".

Scales are usually included with pipes in vendor sites btw
Since these cases are rare and these measures should not be applied lightly, it's generally a good idea to discuss the user in #teamtripsit and get some confirmation that we cannot help. If the user continues to cause problems on the network after being quieted in the assistance channel, refer the situation to a moderator. If you need immediate help with a situation and can't get anyone to respond in #teamtripsit, using the ~teamtripsit command will ping everyone in the channel, hopefully getting someone's attention.

I guess I was thinking more like... linking to a scale on Amazon, tbh.
== Crowding ==

Underage policy
If a user is already being helped, use your common sense to decide whether you should get involved in the situation. If a person is already receiving adequate help then it is often better to just keep an eye on the situation to ensure this continues, or advise in #teamtripsit - overcrowding a user under the influence can often be confusing.

http://nexus.tripsit.me/forum/thread/143/policy-clarification-on-underage-users/
If you are entering an on-going tripsitting session, try to either read the scrollback or read any notifications made for this user to gain the wider context before joining the fray.

Ask an admin if not sure about a rule.
= Commands =

Provide warning and reports when necessary
This section contains some specific usage information for commands relevant to tripsitter staff.

Report good events as well as bad!
== Notifications ==

~report will send a notice to everyone voiced in the channel you reported to.
As a tripsitter, you will receive general notifications and updates via tripbot notifications in PM. Tripbot also automatically generates reports for tripsitting encounters, which you can monitor in the #tripsitters channel.

For example: "~report #drugs Teknos debouchery" will report Teknos to everyone with the +v flag in #drugs for the reason of debouchery.
You're not required to do notifications for tripsitting encounters, however if you would like to go above and beyond, you can certainly make a new notify with extra details not contained in the first notify, called an update notification. The details of how to send an update notify are so:

If you were to report somone in #drugsVIP it would send a report to everyone in that chanel.
'''Syntax: /msg tripbot ~notify <#room> <message> <@assistant> <#drug> <#update>'''

Be aware of the !votekick and !voteban commands.
* <#room> is the room that you want the command to be sent to. Everyone voiced in that room will receive the notification. You need to prefix this with #.

They can be good warnings for people who are borderline breaking rules.
* <user> is the nickname of the user who was assisted and should always be the first word in the notify. Tripbot automatically attaches the host of the first word to the notify.

Professionally communicate with your branch leader about changes to the network via memos, email, nexus forum, or carrier pidgeon
* <message> is whatever the new information is. Maybe someone's experience quickly spiraled downhill, or perhaps they improved!

Recognize misinformation and request citations when needed. Warn or kick obvious misinfo trolls. Remember: No info > bad info.
* <@assistant> are other people in the channel who helped you out with the <user>. You need to prefix each assistant with a @ before their username.

Move conversations to appropriate channels: IE: #psychonaut for spiritual talk and the Nexus blogs for trip reports.
* <#drug> is the name of the drug which was involved, you can include one or more which were involved.

Try to get involved with the various other TripSit projects, you can show up to our weekly meetings to find out more about these
** If a drug has many aliases, any are acceptable. For example, #alprazolam is just as good as #xanax.

Also see our meeting minutes/agena at http://pad.tripsit.me:9001/p/notes if you miss the meeting
** If the encounter involved more general questions about a particular class of drug, you can use e.g. #psychedelics.

Contribute Contribute Contribute! We want you on the team! We want your input!
* <#update> This signifies that the notify you're sending is not for a new person, but updating the status of someone who has already been helped.

Points of contact:
Examples:

If you feel somebody needs to be kicked or banned, or is a cause of concern for the network then you can use the ~report command or contact an administrator or moderator directly.
* ~notify #tripsit Tripsitme_8192 came back in to let us know that they got a friend to watch over them.

Contact a moderator
* ~notify #tripsit Tripsitme_8192 @toasterlizard also helped #update.

ProButcher, US based
You are also encouraged to use the function to notify #teamtripsit if you wish to send announcements to other staff. Use this as much as you'd like. Notifications sent to you while offline will be stored and you'll be notified of them when you next log into IRC.

Darktwist, US based
== #tripsit Entry Alerts ==

Borax, UK based
Entry Alerts will alert you when a previously unrecognised user enters #tripsit who may potentially need help.

Admins may also be available
~gettripsitentries to receive them, ~notripsitentries to stop receiving them.

reality and bod are on on EU time
== Timeouts and Quiets ==

Teknos and trainwreck are on US time
Users who refuse to cooperate with staff or otherwise break the rules may be quieted depending on the severity of the infraction. As a TripSitter, and in keeping the peace, this is something you may need to do at times. Typically, a simple 10 minute timeout will suffice, but a more lengthy quiet may be called for if the user is persistent in breaking rules. The syntax for quieting users is as follows:

If no one is available to help, and you need immediate attention find a snoonet staff member in #tripsit.me or #help. (Rdv, sleazy_martinez, elderthedog).
'''Syntax: /msg tripbot ~quiet <duration> [m|h] <#channel> <user> <reason>

PowerUser Specific
A 10 minute timeout can be invoked like this:

Summing up the responsibilities of a Power User would be the word "guidance." They represent our network and make sure that things are going smoothly. They don't have the responsiblity of kick/baning people and their primary goal is to be helpful and positive. Here is a list of responsibilities and expected behavior:
'''Syntax: ~timout <user> <reason>

TripSit IRC Terms of Service

By connecting and remaining connected to this server you agree to the following Terms of Serivce:

You indemnify tripsit.me, it's owner and it's staff, from all liability of your use on this site.

You acknowlege IRC is a free, real-time, unmoderated media.

You agree to hold responsible yourself, and no other for the consequences of your actions while here.

You agree that by remaining connected to this server, you have accepted these Terms of Service

If you do not agree to these terms, you must disconnect now.

All Snoonet network rules are in effect. For a full list of rules please visit http://www.snoonet.org/user-rules

Hostmasks

A user's I.P. address is obfuscated by default upon connection to Snoonet network, but a hostmask cloak may be requested to spoof the entire hostmask, this is a measure of greater security and makes channel operations much easier. To receive a cloak, join #help and type ” ~cloakme “.

The only "custom" cloak allowed is for an extension of your bot. "@user/NICK/bot/BOTNICK" Having a bot in the channel, however, is completely up to the channel owners. Seehttp://www.snoonet.org/user-rules for more information

Nicknames

Nicknames may not contain any racial slurs or bigotry in the nickname. In case of nickname containing a slur - it will be removed, and multiple offenses may result in bans.

Nicknames may not contain any special signs such as: !@#$%&*()=+/;:'“~

The only exclusion is an underscore '_'  and the vertical bar ' | ' character used to denote extra information.

Nicknames must not impersonate a reddit user.

General Tripsit Rules

By connecting to any chat channel within the TripSit network (#drugs, #tripsit, #psychonaut, #drugsVIP, #tripradio, #psychpharm, #tripsit.me, etc) you agree you will:

Use common sense and don’t do questionable things.

If you have any doubt over whether your topic, question, advice, or comment is acceptable, feel free to speak to any operator or staff member on the IRC channel or join #tripsit.me to grab the attention of everyone available. We are happy to give you a solid judgement on whether your topic is acceptable in private without judgement or consequence.

Keep discussions in the appropriate channel.

The #drugs channel is moderated by the TripSit staff and is our most frequently used channel. It is used for general drug discussion. This includes dosage, effects, routes of administration, and just general chat.

Use #tripsit for calmer chat and for counseling.

We have #psychonaut for spirituality topics and #psychopharm for chemistry topics.

Finally, #tripsit.me if you wish to discuss specific question or issues with moderators and administrators; this channel is devoted to discussing meta TripSit topics such as banning and rules inquriries.

Impersonating LEO

Impersonating an officer of the law, such as having a nickname that implies you are a LEO, will first result in a warning.  If the nick is not changed the user will be kicked. Repeated attempts to join with the same name will result in a  temporary or permanent ban.

Solicitation Policy

Absolutely no sourcing

Sourcings is defined as "discussion of where to specifically purchase or otherwise acquire substances of any kind; this includes links to legalsubstance vendors."

This does include websites such as Amazon. Caffeine, Nootropics, and nitrous are all examples of legal substances that are still not allowed to be sourced

Explaining that you can acquire psychedelics at music festivalsis is common knowledge and allowed, while discussing a specific website or vendor is strictly forbidden.

Do not ask for money, BTC, or users to send you drugs. Keep in mind sarcasm is hard to tell on the internet.

SilkRoad Policy

Any discussion regarding vendors, prices, specifics about products or transaction details is stritcly prohibited and treated the same as sourcing (Insta-kick as a first and only warning, Ban on repeat offense)

Attitude Policy

We are a network devoted to harm reduction and positivity.

Keep It Positive People (KIPP).

No rude, mean, or judgmental language or discussion.

This includes racial slurs, homophobia, and all other prejudice against any person or group of people.

Do not insult other users; take heated arguments to private chat.

Posting personal information about channel members, or doxing, is grounds for a permanent network ban. Trying to collect personal info of users is dealt with in the same manner.

Network Policies and Procedures.

Please read and become familiar with the following procedures

#tripsit information

This channel is for people currently under the influence of drugs and those there to sit them.

This channel should always be ready to help fellow members.

Please take any drug discussion, arguments or otherwise distracting chatter to #drugs instead.

Only light-hearted and positive conversation here: We all know how easily a trip can turn bad just by a simple thought.

Anyone caught being facetious will be warned and then banned if need be.

Rules are STRICTLY enforced in this channel.

Harm Reduction Policy

Occasionally we have users join our community expecting that, due to the subject matter of the community, we will support them in their dangerous behavior, use, and/or attitudes towards drug use.

This is not our purpose; the TripSit community is devoted to harm reduction, support, and positvitiy, and we will never recommend or tolerate dangerous or reckless drug use.

Users identified as continually engaging in reckless drug-use behavior are seen as a bad influence on the community as a whole, actively working against our mission statement to be a a harm-reduction community devoted to positive support.

It is against the rules to endorse or encourage dangerous behavior regarding drug consumption, just as it is completely unacceptable to expect our community to endorse or encourage your dangerous behavior.

It is, in fact, seen as the responsibility of the community's members to actively discourage dangerous behavior.

All users who choose to do so are expected to discourage drug dosages, drug combinations, and/or any drug experimentation which could be reliably considered unsafe.

Note that if a situation is identified as life-threatening, or one in which the community's users believe immediate medical attention is required, we will always attempt to contact local medical personel to help you.

As such, these behaviors are considered against the rules and violators may be subjected to temporary or permanent bans (situation depending).

Please accept and consider the advice given to you seriously and note that ignorance of advice pertaining to potentially life threatening situations will not be tolerated by our community.

Protocol for youngins

Do not give out advice about anything you are not 100% positive about.  If you have no knowledge of the drug, do some research online before providing any advice.

Figure out why they want to take X substance

If they are using drugs as a coping mechanism

Encourage alternate forms of dealing with their problem. More often than not people take drugs because it satisfies something that they are not getting elsewhere.

If the reason they are using drugs is out of curiosity or purely recreational

Proceed to step 2

Inform them, without exaggerating, the potential physiological, psychological and sociological risks, and make sure they comprehend them.

Toxicology

Exacerbation of latent mental disorders, or presentation of acute symptoms such as paranoia etc.

Interactions with current medications or health problems.

Legal consequences if they get caught or do something stupid that puts others at harm. Basically, how their use could potentially affect others

Attempt to dissuade them by using the informati provided in step 2

Suggest a milder alternative to their intended route.

IE: Half a tab instead of a full one;mushrooms instead of DMT; Adderall instead of meth.

If they are still determined to do it then proceed to step 4.

Provide advice that is as accurate as possible that could help mitigate any of the dangers in step 2

Communicate that you do not condone the action but will provide information to best reduce harm.

Make sure that they are ready to accept all consequences for their actions such as imprisonment or death

Why give advice instead of telling them to come back when they’re older

We do NOT condone the use of drugs before the age of 16, preferably 18 (state and international laws vary).

As soon as a minor is already dead-set on doing drugs, you should switch to education mode, not continue to prohibit the use.

Repeatedly saying not to do it is neither helpful to them, nor effective at reducing harm.

Prohibiting action is the best way to encourage said action, especially in children.

While it still may be harmful, TripSit staff can provide advice on how to reduce the dangers and risk of drug use and promote harm reduction - the closest you could get to "Harm Reduction Through  Education"

Medical Advice Policy

Please avoid spreading misinformation about drug use.

Misinformation is harmful to our community.

No information is always better than wrong information.

It is still better to inform the person there may be no current information rather than staying silent and having them wonder if anyone noticed it.

In most instances, people on the internet are not qualified to provide medical advice.

Members of the TripSit community are extremely knowledgeable, wise, and often have ample life experience in a range of situations pertaining to drug use, however they are no substitute for a personal doctor.

If you are not 100% positive about the advice you are thinking about giving, don't say it.

If you don't have sources to validate your advice, do not say anything related to medical advice.

Guidelines Regarding Suicide Threats

While TripSitters will try their best to help member cope with down feelings of depression or worse, we cannot tolerate threats of suicide.

Suicide, depression and mental illness are not the focus of our network and our staff are not adequately trained to deal with suidical situations, nor is it fair to our network's member's to have the onus of guilt placed upon them for potential outcomes of such situations.

If a member is experiencing suicidal thoughts or tendencies, we kindly ask them to consider either professional theraputic assistance, calling the Suicide Hotline, 911, or directing themselves to a community better equipped to deal with their kind of situation.

We endorse Reddit's SuicideWatch community.

Suicide prevention hotlines:

USA: 1-800-273-8255 : National Suicide Prevention Lifeline

UK 111

WHO Posion Control: http://www.who.int/ipcs/publications/training_poisons/guidelines_poison_control/en/

In a situation in which we fear for a users life, we will remind them of the guidelines stated above and do everything in our power to assist the member find qualified help.

In a dangerous overdose situation in which we believe immediate medical attention is required, we will always attempt to contact local medical personel.

These behaviors disrupt the primary objectives of our community.

Therefore, suicide threats and attempts are considered against the rules, and while we will try our best to help in the immediate timescale, such threats and attempts may result in either a temporary or permanent ban from the community (under discretion from the administrators).

Mental illness:

While we are very accepting of members who may have mental illnesses and/or disorders, we do not condone or encourage the use or abuse of drugs that could interact, worsen, or otherwise negatively affect your health.

The TripSit community will not serve as enabler for the destruction of your own mental or physical health.

Please seek medical assistance if you have a question regarding mental illnesses or disorders and their interactions with drugs.

We are not qualified to provide professional medical advice on drug interactions with mental ilnesses.

We are here to help!

If you want to discuss the topic, feel free to bring it up in our IRC channels or pm the TripSit team.

We are happy to discuss any topic at length with you, warn you of any potential drug interactions as well as give you advice, love, respect and positive energy to the best of our ability.

The TripSit community is always here to help and support you, no matter what. We love you and want to keep you with us!

Report Policy

Please help us keep our IRC channels remain a positive and enjoyable place to be. free from trolling and rule violators, by reporting users who are breaking the rules!

If someone is breaking rules in a channel, you can use ‘~report [#channel] [user] [reason]‘ to report them to the TripSit staff.

You can use this command in the channel or in a private message to tripbot.

This command will alert TripSit staff members about the infringement or feedback and will investigate the incident as soon as possible.

You can also report good behavior, such as good tripsitting or providing good advice! Be sure to give good people credit when it's due!

Rule Breaking Procedure

As a member

~report the user

If no action is taken, initiate a !votekick <user> yes/no or a !voteban

As a Power User

Follow the above procedure and respond to ~reports

Tell the TripSit team in #tripsit.me that you the report and will talk to the person in PM.

Warning will be sent via PM on most occasions as to avoid drama in the main channels. Occasionally public warnings will be issued.

As a moderator or adminstrator:

Follow the above procedure and respond to ~reports, kicks, and other violations

Kick immediately if behavior continues

Kicks will be issued after a warning on most cases

Kicks may be used without providing a warning if a user is clearly trolling or if the discussion must be stopped immediately

Kicks are mostly to send a message to the user and to other users that this behavior is not tolerated

Kick is more severe than a warning but does not do permenant damage.

Kicks aren't that big a deal; you can rejoin the channel immediately if you choose to do so.

Provide a reason and a link to the rules in the kick.

Remain courteous: Most users are not 'bad' people.

If they rejoin and continue, ~nban

Repeat offenders will be considered for a temporary or permanent ban.  Power users also can instute a vote ban using !voteban user yes/no

Each situation is different and may be subjective, so temporary and permanent bans will be handled case by case basis.

TripSit staff will consult with any violators at length before any decision is made.

Several moderators, administrators, and TripSit Staff will handle all instances where a member may have to be banned.

Temporary bans may also be issued.

If a issue requires an immediate ban, please make sure you make notifcation of the ban using ~nban user reason

tripbot will have information regarding all bans.  Enter ~ban_user to see notes regarding the ban.

Add a note to the ~banlist

LAST RESORT: BANNED USERS DO NOT COME BACK NOR DO THEY TELL THEIR FRIENDS ABOUT OUR NETWORK

If they protest or are unclear as to why they are banned, do not argue in PM, invite them to #tripsit.me to keep it public and explain why they were banned.

Keep it professional; do not make it personal, seek vengance or retaliation.

Please do not take any of this personally as we are running a professional harm reduction network.

We love you all, but some of you need a break sometimes!

If they continue, involve RDV or snoonet staff to get a kline to remove them from the Snoonet network

Ban-Appealment Policy

Do not evade a ban issued to you.  If you wish to discuss your ban, please PM a TripSit Moderator, Administrator, or staff member - or join #tripsit.me.

Do not share PMs from staff unless both parties are aware and consent. This is a breach of trust. Also, please refrain from viewing PM's sent to you. This rule does not apply to certain situations where a user has broken the rules. This is mostly just a curtesy for the rest of the staff to be able to speak and not wonder who else is listening.

Introduction

Our primary goal as TripSit is to tripsit the universe. As such, Tripsitters are the backbone of our network, and their function is to provide assistance to drug users throughout the network - primarily in our tripsitting channels. Without their selfless efforts we would not be here today. Each of us have stepped up in the #tripsit rooms to help people and it's a rite of passage to advance to other positions in the network. As such we have fairly high standards for our tripsitters and expect the best of them.

Never be afraid to defer a question to another member of the team by asking in #teamtripsit or even by using the '~tripsit user' command to call for help. Remember that no information is always preferable to incorrect information.

You can find a guide on how to TripSit users here. Please also make sure you are familiar with our general staff orientation.

Redirecting Users

There's no telling when a serious case will come in that could seriously alter the mood of other people in the room. It can also become quite chaotic and difficult for people under the influence when there are multiple conversations going on in the room at once. For these reasons we attempt to keep the assistance channels relatively clear for users who are in need of help. We do so by assessing the situation of the person, and then suggest they join another room on the network if necessary. Also, sometimes a user enters the channel looking for general chat. In both of these situations, you can direct them to an appropriate channel.

Some good channels to keep in mind for different circumstances are:

  • #drugs - For when the person has high-energy and wants a super-active chat. Avoid suggesting this channel if the person is easily confused or in a fragile mental state.
  • #lounge - Generally a lot more quiet than #drugs, this room can be used as a back-up room if #sanctuary is too crowded, or for smaller chats with people who want to socialize, but not in #drugs
  • #sanctuary - You are encouraged to use #sanctuary as a place to send users who are on drugs but would rather have lighter, more positive, conversation than #drugs.

If a user is on a substance and being spoken to, though not in any particular 'trouble', there is no need to move them to another room as a matter of urgency unless there is another situation happening in the channel - though these cases should eventually be moved to #sanctuary. You can take your time to make sure they're okay before moving them.

General drug questions may be answered in the assistance channels, there is no need to redirect these cases unless the rooms are busy.

Managing Tripsitters

The #tripsitters channel is our control room for discussing and managing tripsitting encounters. As a tripsitter staff member you will be expected to lead other people who are helping in providing an organised and quality tripsitting experience to our users.

Emergency Situations

Rarely, a user who joins an assistance channel is in a state beyond help. This can arise from them simply being unresponsive or refusing to accept advice in the face of dangerous behaviour, or in the case that the user needs to seek medical attention. In such a case, it's acceptable to ~quiet the user in #tripsit, with a note of what the user needs to do. For example, in the past we have quieted users with the reason of "Call EMS immediately".

Crowding

If a user is already being helped, use your common sense to decide whether you should get involved in the situation. If a person is already receiving adequate help then it is often better to just keep an eye on the situation to ensure this continues, or advise in #teamtripsit - overcrowding a user under the influence can often be confusing.

If you are entering an on-going tripsitting session, try to either read the scrollback or read any notifications made for this user to gain the wider context before joining the fray.

Commands

This section contains some specific usage information for commands relevant to tripsitter staff.

Notifications

As a tripsitter, you will receive general notifications and updates via tripbot notifications in PM. Tripbot also automatically generates reports for tripsitting encounters, which you can monitor in the #tripsitters channel.

You're not required to do notifications for tripsitting encounters, however if you would like to go above and beyond, you can certainly make a new notify with extra details not contained in the first notify, called an update notification. The details of how to send an update notify are so:

Syntax: /msg tripbot ~notify <#room> <message> <@assistant> <#drug> <#update>

  • <#room> is the room that you want the command to be sent to. Everyone voiced in that room will receive the notification. You need to prefix this with #.
  • <user> is the nickname of the user who was assisted and should always be the first word in the notify. Tripbot automatically attaches the host of the first word to the notify.
  • <message> is whatever the new information is. Maybe someone's experience quickly spiraled downhill, or perhaps they improved!
  • <@assistant> are other people in the channel who helped you out with the <user>. You need to prefix each assistant with a @ before their username.
  • <#drug> is the name of the drug which was involved, you can include one or more which were involved.
    • If a drug has many aliases, any are acceptable. For example, #alprazolam is just as good as #xanax.
    • If the encounter involved more general questions about a particular class of drug, you can use e.g. #psychedelics.
  • <#update> This signifies that the notify you're sending is not for a new person, but updating the status of someone who has already been helped.

Examples:

  • ~notify #tripsit Tripsitme_8192 came back in to let us know that they got a friend to watch over them.
  • ~notify #tripsit Tripsitme_8192 @toasterlizard also helped #update.

You are also encouraged to use the function to notify #teamtripsit if you wish to send announcements to other staff. Use this as much as you'd like. Notifications sent to you while offline will be stored and you'll be notified of them when you next log into IRC.

#tripsit Entry Alerts

Entry Alerts will alert you when a previously unrecognised user enters #tripsit who may potentially need help.

~gettripsitentries to receive them, ~notripsitentries to stop receiving them.

Timeouts and Quiets

Users who refuse to cooperate with staff or otherwise break the rules may be quieted depending on the severity of the infraction. As a TripSitter, and in keeping the peace, this is something you may need to do at times. Typically, a simple 10 minute timeout will suffice, but a more lengthy quiet may be called for if the user is persistent in breaking rules. The syntax for quieting users is as follows:

Syntax: /msg tripbot ~quiet <duration> [m|h] <#channel> <user> <reason>

A 10 minute timeout can be invoked like this:

Syntax: ~timout <user> <reason>
