A relative of mistletoe (Viscum album 1.), Phrygilanthus
eugenioides is used in the voodoo cult as
a magical plant. It is said to have psychoactive or
hallucinogenic powers (Schultes and Farnsworth
1982, 187*; Schultes and Hofmann 1980, 367*).
Curiously, the ancient texts suggest that mistletoe
may also produce psychoactive effects (cf.
Benthamia alyxifolia).
