== History ==
The TripSit network was founded by Techno_shaman (Teknos) in reddit.com/ r/tripsit on June 1st, 2012. It progressed into an IRC channel on Sept 2, 2012 and continues to increase it's focus around harm reduction and providing a safe community for the world's Psychonaut community. It has since grown into a website, live web radio, and social network. So far, we have helped countless people in many different ways. We have been featured by MAPS and we've had several news articles written about us. We're currently expanding our social network and working on developing a real-life presence at festivals and concerts, and you're invited to be a part in the next step in growing our network.

=== Introduction ===
Tripbot is a multi-use omnibot that includes many features we rely on to do an efficient job of moderating the network.
=== Powahs ===
==== Webinterface ====
Your username is myuser@ snoonet, and you can set a password by issuing the ' ~setwebpass mypassword' command. Please PM tripbot to keep your password confidential. Contact reality if you have any issues.
==== Entry Alert ====
~gettripsitentries to receive them, ~notripsitentries to stop receiving them.
This will alert you when a previously unrecognised host enters #tripsit who may potentially need help.
==== Other Commands ====
See ~tripbotcommands. These commands are constantly updating. New commands will be shared via Tripbot notifications
=== Feedback System ===
==== Report ====
Syntax: ~report < user> <room> <hostmask> <message>
*Available to all users. This will send a notice to everyone voiced in the channel you reported to. For example: "~report #drugs Teknos debauchery" will report Teknos to everyone with the +v flag in #drugs for the reason of debauchery. Commonly used for problem users in #drugs and other channels. When responding to a report by talking with the user, send a ~notify to #teamtripsit to acknowledge that staff has followed through on a report. Encourage regular users to employ use of this command, we rely on reports to know when thing's are not right.
==== Warning ====
Syntax: ~ warn <user> <hostmask> <message>
*Available to Power Users and higher. Warnings are counted and permanently stored online for staff to view past events. Warnings should only be given for repeat behavior or serious offenses (IE: Sourcing. Sourcing happens fairly often, not direct links, but simple "Where can I get X", "Does anyone know a good vendor for X" kind of stuff. Verbal warnings suffice most of the time.
to . and be of .
== Notify ====
Syntax: ~notify <room> <message>
*Available to all users. Send ~notify #tripsit for every encounter on #tripsit. Send notifications to #teamtripsit for all other reasons. Excellent communication tool. Use this as much as you'd like. Be sure to include the user's info, a short summary of the encounter, and anyone who assisted (tag them with @. e.g. ~notify #tripsit Trainwreck came into #tripsit and was really high on marijuana and lost the remote. @Teknos and I helped him find it.
~gettripsitentries to them, ~to them.
==== Quiet ====
Syntax: ~quiet (minutes) (#channel) <user> reason (Minutes and channel are optional)
*Available to PowerUsers and higher.This prevents the user from speaking in that channel, as well as changing their nickname and also sends a notify to staff in that channel. Excellent for trolls and rowdy users.
==== Network Ban ====
Syntax: ~nban <user> <reason>
*Available to Mods and higher. Bans a user from all of our public channels. Infinitaly easier than playing whack-a-user when they pop into different channels.
== Staff Expectations ==
=== Communication ===
Communication is extremely important and as such we have several forms of contact for our team members.
==== IRC Communication ====
Our main mode of communication is IRC as it allows real time converstations.
== Staff Channels ==
Required: All staff members should be on at least these channels.
=== #tripsit ===
Our flagship channel for immediate assistance. Please idle here and if you see someone ping you with the !tripsit or ~tripsit command do your best to respond. Remember: KIPP! (Keep it positive people!)
=== #drugs: ===
Tripsit handles moderation of this general talk channel
=== #tripsitvip ===
VIP section for regular #drugs users.
*Users need to be registered with snoonet to join, must be voiced to talk
=== #tripsit.me ===
Accessible to Mods and Admins only. Power Users, Tripsitters, and any user may join to discuss channel issues directly with mods but cannot idle.
*Admin talk for issues with TripSit.
*NO SOCIAL TALK PLEASE (take it to #teamtripsit or #tripsitvip), it makes reading the log a PITA when there's pages of irrelevant info.
=== #teamtripsit ===
This is a channel for all staff. People who regular this room will recieve general tripsit memos regarding the network. Used for general and social chat, as well as teambuilding and brainstorming on how to improve the network
*Optional: These rooms are affiliated with tripsit but are not the main rooms.
=== #psychonaut ===
Channel for psychonaut discussion. Moderate the same way as you would for #drugs
=== #psychopharm ===
Channel to discuss pharmacology, chemistry, and other psychonautic topics.
=== #bitcoin ===
Channel to discuss the online currency, bitcoin
=== #tripradio ===
[www.tripsit.fm]'s channel. Used for requests, music talk, DJ talk, and any other questions about becoming a DJ or getting involved with www.tripsit.fm
==== Titanpad System ====
== Titanpad ==
We document changes to the network in monthly pads. Please check the month and go to the corresponding pad.
*Only staff members have access to the Titanpad by default.
*When using the Titanpad, PLEASE ENTER YOUR NAME TO THE RIGHT SO WE KNOW WHO'S EDITING!
*When making a new pad, please be sure to include a title and classification (user, info, misc., etc)
*Only make a pad password protected if you have consulted with one of the admins about the contents of the pad. Admins have access to password protected pads.
Nexus forum topics are used for discussion and votes. Please keep up to date with the Administrator section on the Nexus forums. This is where we will have the majority of our meetings, discussion about policy changes, etc. Click LIKE to notify that you have read a thread or a reply. If you cannot get access to the Administrator forums, please contact a Nexus admin (Teknos, reality, trees, trainwreck)
== Emails ==
If you would like a @tripsit.me email please let an admin know
=== Network Wide Duties and Job Functions ===
Staff members are positive, nice, respectful and professional in their dealings with members whether regular or staff; they represent the entire network! We want people who have leadership skills and can enforce rules whilte still promoteing a positive environment. They guide conversation to an acceptable level of quality by being positive and supportive at all times.while maintaining a positive and compassionate attitude.
We want all of our staff members to be role models and regular contributors. All staff supervise and advance part of the TripSit network. We expect them to be able to devote a reasonable amount of time to TripSit projects, including: Nexus, Wiki, a TripSit affiliated IRC channel, the Official TinyChat, twitter, and future TripSit projects. Contribute Contribute Contribute! We want you on the team! We want your input!
You will be expected to know the network policies and procedures as listed at http://wiki.tripsit.me/wiki/IRC_rules Regardless of their role, staff will enforce our and snoonet's rules - http://tripsit.me/ircrules. They will recognize misinformation, request citations when needed, and deal with trolls. Remember: No info > bad info.
== Ban-Appealment Policy ==
It is network policy not to discuss a ban in PM. If a user wishes to contest a ban ask them to join #tripsit.me to appeal.
=== Populate other channels ===
Move conversations to appropriate channels: IE: #psychonaut for spiritual talk, #psychopharm for chemistry discussion, #tripsitvip for slower, denser chat and the Nexus blogs for trip reports.
=== Be Involved ===
Try to get involved with the various other TripSit projects. Get a Nexus account, learn to DJ, contribute to the Wiki. Contribute Contribute Contribute! We want you on the team! We want your input!
=== Tripsitter Duties ===
Tripsitters are the backbone of our network. Without their selfless efforts we would not be here today. Each of us have stepped up in the #tripsit room to help people and it's a rite of passage to advance to other positions in the network. As such we have fairly high expectations of our tripsitters and expect the best out of them.
You will continue to be an active, responsible trip sitter in the #tripsit channel. After recieving the proper flags, you will recieve !tripsit and ~tripsit notifications and are expected to respond to them whenever possible. You may tell tripbot ~gettripsitentries and he will let you know when new users enter #tripsit and may need help. Please respond to anyone joining #tripsit with a "how are you doing" or something to that effect. If the user does not need help and just wants general chat, direct them to /join #drugs. If the user needs help, do the best you can to answer their questions while keeping in mind no info is always better than false info. Never be afraid to defer a question to another member of the team by asking in #teamtripsit or even to use the '~tripsit user' command yourself to let people know a user needs further help. When the encounter is over you must send a notify to tripbot (syntax below) detailing how it went. You must send an notify for EACH and EVERY encounter. There is a no tollerance policy for trolling and sarcasm, you're free to ~quiet <user> whenever you feel they cross the line. Have them come to a staff channel to discuss why before unquieting them.
=== PowerUser Duties ===
Summing up the responsibilities of a Power User would be the word "guidance."
*They represent our network and make sure that things are going smoothly.
*They don't have the responsiblity of kick/baning people and their primary goal is to be helpful and positive.
*They multitask by guiding all tripsit channels into a positive light.
*They make heavy use of the ~report command for notification of our team.
*PowerUsers cannot kick or ban, so please ~warn the offender, ~report them, and ~quiet if necessary, and if an admin is not online initiate a !voteban
=== Moderator Responsiblities ===
Moderators have leadership skills and can enforce rules while maintaining a positive and compassionate attitude. They assume all the roles and responsibilities of being a power user, but with additional powers and expectations for rule breakers, as discussed in the Rule Breaking Procedure. trees, toasterlizard, sundown and borax are moderators.
=== Admin Responsiblities ===
Oversee entire TripSit Network and make sure the network doesnt burn down. Follow through on reports, log bans/warnings. Work on and delegate numerous projects relating to Nexus, Merch, Wiki, IRC, and other content. Work on IRL applications to our TripSit network, including merch, marketing, improving network
== Rule Breaking Procedure ==
=== As a member ===
*~report the user
*If no action is taken, initiate a !votekick <user> yes/no or a !voteban
=== As a tripsitter ===
* ~quiet <user> and send a report about him in to tripbot.
=== As a Power User ===
*Follow the above procedure and respond to ~reports by telling the TripSit team via ~notify #channel that you recieved the report and will talk to the person in PM. Warning will be sent via PM on most occasions as to avoid drama in the main channels and a note will be added to their file on Titanpad. Occasionally public warnings will be issued. If action continues then you may issue an official ~warning to them . If they persist without a moderator stepping in, you may ~ quiet them.
* ~report #channel user reason' every time you have to verbally warn a user. Instances of ~quiet etc are automatically documented (and you can provide a reason along with them ).
=== As a moderator: ===
*You have the power to kick/ban people from the network. We ask that you use the corresponding Tripbot commands for this. Your involvement starts when the powerusers' end. After a ~report and/or ~warning has been issued, you may ~kick the user as a final warning. Always provide a reason for the kick.
*Finally, if they continue their behavior, you may ~nban them from the network. Remember that banned users don't give good reviews or come back to help so do this as a last resort. Admins/mods will investigate every ban so make sure that you feel the ban is necessary.
**Remember to keep logs and documentation on Titanpad.
**If they protest or are unclear as to why they are banned, do not argue in PM, invite them to #tripsit.me to keep it public and explain why they were banned.
**Keep it professional; do not make it personal, seek vengeance or retaliation. "Please do not take any of this personally as we are running a professional harm reduction network. We love you all, but some of you need a break sometimes!"
== Default Nicknames ==
Sometimes a user will come in with a default nickname. Different nicknames indicate where they came from.
*Social = #drugs
*Tripdude = #tripsit (Non immediate assistance)
*Tripsitme = #tripsit (Immediate assistance link)
*Should be greeted upon entry, this isn't always possible, considering the volume of people that join #tripsit. Do your best to be welcoming though!
*Psychonaut = #psychonaut
*Pharmer = #psychopharm
*These two are linked in /r/saplings
*Sapling = # tripsit
*Toker = #drugs
== Applications and new staff ==
We do not need a certain number of staff, but it would be foolish to turn down someone who wants to help. If you or someone you know wants to work on a project let the POC of that branch know and fill out an application: http://nexus.tripsit.me/forum/thread/192/staff-application/
Our primary goal as TripSit is to tripsit the universe. As such, Tripsitters are the backbone of our network, and their function is to provide assistance to drug users throughout the network - primarily in our tripsitting channels. Without their selfless efforts we would not be here today. Each of us have stepped up in the #tripsit rooms to help people and it's a rite of passage to advance to other positions in the network. As such we have fairly high standards for our tripsitters and expect the best of them.
Never be afraid to defer a question to another member of the team by asking in #teamtripsit or even by using the '~tripsit user' command to call for help. Remember that no information is always preferable to incorrect information.
You can find a guide on how to TripSit users here. Please also make sure you are familiar with our general staff orientation.
There's no telling when a serious case will come in that could seriously alter the mood of other people in the room. It can also become quite chaotic and difficult for people under the influence when there are multiple conversations going on in the room at once. For these reasons we attempt to keep the assistance channels relatively clear for users who are in need of help. We do so by assessing the situation of the person, and then suggest they join another room on the network if necessary. Also, sometimes a user enters the channel looking for general chat. In both of these situations, you can direct them to an appropriate channel.
Some good channels to keep in mind for different circumstances are:
- #drugs - For when the person has high-energy and wants a super-active chat. Avoid suggesting this channel if the person is easily confused or in a fragile mental state.
- #lounge - Generally a lot more quiet than #drugs, this room can be used as a back-up room if #sanctuary is too crowded, or for smaller chats with people who want to socialize, but not in #drugs
- #sanctuary - You are encouraged to use #sanctuary as a place to send users who are on drugs but would rather have lighter, more positive, conversation than #drugs. If a user is on drugs, and needs a quieter chat or perhaps some lighter tripsitting, or if #tripsit is already busy, attempt to redirect them to #sanctuary. This room has enforced positivity knowing that people who are currently on substances will be here. Avoid sending more rambunctious or loud users here.
If a user is on a substance and being spoken to, though not in any particular 'trouble', there is no need to move them to another room as a matter of urgency unless there is another situation happening in the channel - though these cases should eventually be moved to #sanctuary. You can take your time to make sure they're okay before moving them.
General drug questions may be answered in the assistance channels, there is no need to redirect these cases unless the rooms are busy.
The #tripsitters channel is our control room for discussing and managing tripsitting encounters. As a tripsitter staff member you will be expected to lead other people who are helping in providing an organised and quality tripsitting experience to our users.
This involves pulling people who are helping out in the assistance channels into #tripsitters, and using it to give tips and help to people who are helping. You can also monitor this channel to see a summary of activity in the assistance channels, and receive alerts for when somebody needs help or may not be receiving help (are talking to themselves in the channel).
Rarely, a user who joins an assistance channel is in a state beyond help. This can arise from them simply being unresponsive or refusing to accept advice in the face of dangerous behaviour, or in the case that the user needs to seek medical attention. In such a case, it's acceptable to ~quiet the user in #tripsit, with a note of what the user needs to do. For example, in the past we have quieted users with the reason of "Call EMS immediately".
Since these cases are rare and these measures should not be applied lightly, it's generally a good idea to discuss the user in #teamtripsit and get some confirmation that we cannot help. If the user continues to cause problems on the network after being quieted in the assistance channel, refer the situation to a moderator. If you need immediate help with a situation and can't get anyone to respond in #teamtripsit, using the ~teamtripsit command will ping everyone in the channel, hopefully getting someone's attention.
If a user is already being helped, use your common sense to decide whether you should get involved in the situation. If a person is already receiving adequate help then it is often better to just keep an eye on the situation to ensure this continues, or advise in #teamtripsit - overcrowding a user under the influence can often be confusing.
If you are entering an on-going tripsitting session, try to either read the scrollback or read any notifications made for this user to gain the wider context before joining the fray.
This section contains some specific usage information for commands relevant to tripsitter staff.
As a tripsitter, you will receive general notifications and updates via tripbot notifications in PM. Tripbot also automatically generates reports for tripsitting encounters, which you can monitor in the #tripsitters channel.
You're not required to do notifications for tripsitting encounters, however if you would like to go above and beyond, you can certainly make a new notify with extra details not contained in the first notify, called an update notification. The details of how to send an update notify are so:
Syntax: /msg tripbot ~notify <#room> <message> <@assistant> <#drug> <#update>
- <#room> is the room that you want the command to be sent to. Everyone voiced in that room will receive the notification. You need to prefix this with #.
- <user> is the nickname of the user who was assisted and should always be the first word in the notify. Tripbot automatically attaches the host of the first word to the notify.
- <message> is whatever the new information is. Maybe someone's experience quickly spiraled downhill, or perhaps they improved!
- <@assistant> are other people in the channel who helped you out with the <user>. You need to prefix each assistant with a @ before their username.
- <#drug> is the name of the drug which was involved, you can include one or more which were involved.
- If a drug has many aliases, any are acceptable. For example, #alprazolam is just as good as #xanax.
- If the encounter involved more general questions about a particular class of drug, you can use e.g. #psychedelics.
- <#update> This signifies that the notify you're sending is not for a new person, but updating the status of someone who has already been helped.
- ~notify #tripsit Tripsitme_8192 came back in to let us know that they got a friend to watch over them.
- ~notify #tripsit Tripsitme_8192 @toasterlizard also helped #update.
You are also encouraged to use the function to notify #teamtripsit if you wish to send announcements to other staff. Use this as much as you'd like. Notifications sent to you while offline will be stored and you'll be notified of them when you next log into IRC.
#tripsit Entry Alerts
Entry Alerts will alert you when a previously unrecognised user enters #tripsit who may potentially need help.
~gettripsitentries to receive them, ~notripsitentries to stop receiving them.
Timeouts and Quiets
Users who refuse to cooperate with staff or otherwise break the rules may be quieted depending on the severity of the infraction. As a TripSitter, and in keeping the peace, this is something you may need to do at times. Typically, a simple 10 minute timeout will suffice, but a more lengthy quiet may be called for if the user is persistent in breaking rules. The syntax for quieting users is as follows:
Syntax: /msg tripbot ~quiet <duration> [m|h] <#channel> <user> <reason>
A 10 minute timeout can be invoked like this:
Syntax: ~timout <user> <reason>
